About the Candle

Why is my candle emitting soot?

Soot is a natural occurrence to burning candles. If your candle(s) is continuously emitting soot, this is the result of the wick not properly trimmed to 1/4" prior to each burn, carbon build-up on the wick, candle is in the area of a draft, or abusive burning (candle has burned longer than the recommended time).

To eliminate and/or reduce excess soot, please keep your candle wick(s) trimmed to 1/4,” extinguish candle if it has been burning longer than 3-4 hours, or place in an area where no drafts are present.

Why is my candle tunneling?

Tunneling occurs primarily due to the candle not reaching its full melt pool on the initial burn. To avoid tunneling, we recommend burning your candle for the minimum hours based on the diameter of the jar. For example, burn a 3-4 inch diameter candle for a minimum of 3-4 hours. Candles should burn for one hour per diameter of the jar.

What is abusive or excessive burning?

Abusive or excessive burning is when the candle has burned for longer than the recommended time as listed on the caution label commonly found at the bottom of the candle jar or box. Candles should burn for no longer than 3-4 hours at a time.

What is the best way to trim my candle wick(s)?

We recommend using wick trimmers to help keep your candle wicks trimmed. However, if you do not have wick trimmers, using a pair of sharp scissors will be fine.

Please allow your candle to cool completely prior to trimming or relighting.
